Coming off a solid win last week the Druids were determined to continue their winning ways against the always strong Calgary Irish. The team spent a fair bit of time working on their pattern of attack during the week and the practice paid off within minutes of the kick off as a hard running Duncan Morris finished off a nice series of phases with a crashing run right through the middle under the posts. The Druids added to their lead soon after with a well struck penalty kick by Snowy. The Irish responded with a score of their own and were determined to make a game of things. The new comer Josh Papale restored the lead for the Druids touching down his first of two trys on the day. The conversion by the sure footed Snowy put the Druids up by seven points. That try was followed up by another solid try by our captain Marty which was again converted by Snowy. Our fourteen point lead held up for a while but instead of scoring and putting the game out of reach a defensive laps and strong run down the wing by Irish number nine allowed the Irish back in the game. The play seemed to go back and forth after that with a long passage of play without a score. The scoring drought was eventually ended much to the delight of the vocal home town fans when Michael lowered the boom on an Irish player with an impressive tackle right in front of the stands. The Irish player  desperate to   keep the play alive coughed up  the ball in contact and the alert Josh Papale stepped up to grab the gift  and scampered some thirty five meters down the sidelines for his second score of the day.  Instead of closing the deal at this point we again let the Irish back into the game allowing them a rather weak try off a mid field  ruck where we did not have sufficient numbers on one side of the ruck.

Overall the Druids played a solid game and were well deserving of the win. Again we were solid in the lineouts. Our scrumaging was improved and at times looked solid however inconsistency at other times had us going backwards. This was a game that we could have put away early but we let the Irish off the hook by failing to finish off movements that had us on their goal line on three different occasions.

The player of the game for the Irish was the ever illusive and hard running number nine Ian Shoults.

The man of the match for the Druids as selected by the Irish was new comer Josh Papale who scored two trys on the day and had some strong attacking runs that got us moving forward. Honorable mention goes out to Martin who again played solid. The game at times got very physical and the presence of the powerful Konrad Augustson who after a year off is making more and more of an impact each game. Ian Rousseau was particularly strong in the scrums and played well in contact. Snowy again played well and his sure footed kicking 4/4 on conversions and one penalty kick in the end were the difference in a game that was closer than maybe it should have been.

Tries: Duncan Morris, Josh Papale (2), Martin Clancy.
Cons: Adam Gowing (4)
Pen: Adam Gowing
